The Light in the Darkness

I had a vision of storm clouds rolling around the sky.  The dark and dreary clouds were rolling around fast, one over the top of the other, filling the sky.  But there was a light shining through the middle of the storm.

The storm clouds tried to roll in and encroach on the light, but it could not penetrate the light, because where there is light no darkness can penetrate.  Each time the dark cloud tried to roll toward the light, it retreated from the light and rolled away again.  The bright light in the centre stayed steady and consistent, not moved by the storm rolling around it.

He calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves. What a blessing was that stillness as he brought them safely into harbor!

Psalm 107:29-30 NLT

What storm are you facing today?

A storm that is noisy and rumbling all around you.  Everything is so dark you can barely see the light.  Just as you start to see the light shine through the storm, the clouds roll in even harder trying to limit how you see the light.

A storm cloud rolls in from one side and then another, but when they reach the light, the storm clouds retreat.

But Jesus!

I want to remind you.  Where there is the light, no darkness can penetrate.  It didn’t matter how much the darkness tried to roll in over the light, it could not.

Have faith! Jesus is all around you; surrounding you.  He is in you.  He is closer than the air that you breathe.

I, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, will act for you with thunder and earthquake and great noise, with whirlwind and storm and consuming fire.  All the nations fighting against Jerusalem will vanish like a dream!

Isaiah 29:6-7 NLT

Think about when you walk into a dark room and you switch on the light.  The darkness disappears.  That is because light and darkness cannot occupy the same space.

It does not matter how many storm clouds are rolling around you, the light of Jesus always shines through.  Sometimes it is hard to see the light of Jesus shining through when you are surrounded by distractions, and all you can see is the storm rolling in around you.

Don’t take your eyes of me!

But Jesus is saying, don’t look at the storm.  Keep looking straight up, through the storm.  Don’t look to the left or the right.  Don’t take your eyes off me.  Stay focused on Me!

I Am Constant!

The light is there, shining brightly.  It’s not going anywhere.  It stays constant.

The Storm will pass, and more storms will come but the light remains constant.  The light does not move, it does not come and go.  It remains, constant, never changing.

Fix your eyes on the light of Jesus and don’t move from it.  If you can’t see the light, it’s because you have taken your eyes off it and are distracted by the storm surrounding you.  The light is still there, it never moves, it never grows dim.

You can sleep in the storm!

When you keep your eyes on God’s light, you won’t be affected by the storm anymore.  Even though the storm might still be threatening, you do not fear because Jesus gives you peace in the storm, if you keep your eyes focused on him.  He will take care of the storm for you, just look up, lift your eyes and lift your hands.  Look to Jesus.  Then you can sleep in the storm.

Be still and know that I am God.

Psalm 46:10 NLT

Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion.  The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!”  Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm.  Then he asked them,, “Why are you afraid! Do you still have no faith?”

Mark 4:38-40 NLT

Do you have enough faith to believe He will calm your storm?

He is your comforter, and your protector.  He’s got you in this.

But you are a tower of refuge to the poor, O Lord, a tower of refuge to the needy in distress.  You are a refuge from the storm and a shelter from the heat.

Isaiah 25:4 NLT

Then I saw a sunrise lighting up the sky, rising over the storm.  The storm now submitting under the display of God’s Glory, bringing revelation, resurrection, and revival.

New revelation comes from keeping your eyes on the Lord in the middle of the storm.  Surrender to Him, trust in Him and He will give you a new perspective.  He will revive you in the storm and resurrect the things you thought were dead.  He will bring new life, a new beginning.

The power of resurrection that comes from Jesus is in you.

Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb. Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from Heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it.  His face shone like lightening, and his clothing was as white as now.

Matthew 28:1-3 NLT

The angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said.  I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.  He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen.

Matthew 28:5-6 NLT

Jesus is resurrecting your dead things.

Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

John 8:12 NLT

Look up and Praise Him!
